Having received a letter the other day containing the sentence 'You have until 31 December 9999 ...' it got me thinking.
The Biblical record gives a date for creation around 4,000BC.
Observational science gives good reasons for speculating a date of creation of something like 10,000BC.
So why do we have these big numbers being thrown around all the time?
Such are based on speculative (and unprovable) initial conditions.
Does the prospect of these small numbers being true frighten you?
I find them awesome.
When I consider the heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is man that you care for him?
You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honour.
You made him ruler over the works of your hands;
you put everything under his feet;
all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field,
the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.
O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth! (Psalm 8vv3-9)
Are you living like you have until 31 December 9999?
Or are you living with 'eternity's values in view'?
