The other day I was struck by the following passages from Joel...
Joel 1:9
Offerings of grain and wine are no longer brought to the Lord's temple.
His servants, the priests, are deep in sorrow.
Joel 1:13
Mourn, you priests who serve at the altar of my God.
Spend your days and nights wearing sackcloth.
Offerings of grain and wine are no longer brought to the Lord's temple.
Joel 1:14
Tell the leaders and people to come together at the temple.
Order them to go without eating and to pray sincerely.
We are in for trouble!
Your response? - I don't know, but I do see Joel 1:14 as a word to the leaders of this nation.
Then I saw this newspaper article on the web -
"It'll be anarchy": Gordon Brown discussed putting troops on the streets as banking crisis worsened...
All we had in response to the national situation were orderly queues at Northern Rock.
I am not sure we as a people grasp the trouble we are in.
Around the time of the 2010 Election I wrote these words (see End of the World):
"I feel that a day is coming, and it may not be far off, when this country will need a leader with the humility, grace and wisdom to handle it."
Personally, I feel like we (i.e. me) are in the situation of the widow in (1ki17vv14-16).
Time of drought and famine, but promised by the Lord enough to live on until the rains return.
