The words of Jesus to his disciples "Go into all the world ..." are recorded in Mark16:15 followed by the instruction of what they are to do "... proclaim the good news (i.e. Jesus' resurrection) ...".

Luke records something similar on a different occassion "... the forgiveness of sins must be preached in Jesus's name to all nations ... you are my witnesses ..." Luke 24:47.

On yet another occassion Matthew recorded "... go and make disciples of all nations ..." Matthew 28:19.

What does this "Go into all the World" mean? What does it look like?

  • Go with Jesus' authority.
  • Go as Jesus' representatives (See 2 Corintians 5:29 - "Ambassdors for Christ").
  • Go to seek 'Kingdom Business' opportunities.
  • Go to deal with Kingdom visa enquiries.
  • Go to distribute Kingdom relief and aid.
  • Go to prepare for Jesus' return.

On the occassion recorded by Matthew we read that 'Jesus came near and spoke to them ...' Matthew 28:18.
Who did he 'come near to'?
Who did he 'speak to'?

We have our answer immediately before with the words '... some doubted.' Matthew 28:17.

Doubt what? Can't be the resurrection - Jesus was standing with them!
The doubt expressed here refers to hesitation, amazement and fear.

Gracious Jesus responds as follows:

  • He comes near and speaks to them Matthew 28:18a.
  • He declares "I've received all authority ..." Matthew 28:18b.
  • Because of his authority they can go ("Therefore, go and ..." Matthew 28:19).
  • He declares "I won't desert you or let you down" (Matthew 28:20b).

Wow, he meets us in our hesitation, amazement and fear.
Elsewhere Jesus spoke with authority saying: "If that were not so I would not have told you ..." (John 14:2).
Jesus can be trusted.
Jesus is for you not against you.
Jesus is not a hard task master (Matthew 25:24).

 Matthew 25:18b-20

... some doubted. Jesus came near and spoke to them,
"I've received all authority in heaven and earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything that I've commanded you. Look, I myself will be with you every day until the end of this present age."
