In Britain and Europe I wrote about the need to 'leave the old ways and make new paths' irrespective of the referendum outcome, never imagining that things would go the way they have in the last couple of weeks. Is this the 'breaking up the fallow ground' referred to in Hosea 10:12-14a?

Sow for yourselves righteousness;
Reap in mercy;
Break up you fallow ground,
For it is time to seek the LORD,
Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.

You have plowed wickedness;
You have reaped iniquity,
You have eaten the fruit of lies,
Because you have trusted in your own way,
In the strength of your strong men.

Therefore tumult shall arise among your people,
And all your treasures shall be plundered.

We not only have the 'Britain and Europe' crisis but (after a long wait to officially hear what we already suspected) the nation is also reeling from the publication of the Chilcot report into the Iraq war.

I have not noticed anyone remarking on the significance of the Chilcot report being published in the same week as the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme and the similarities between them - bad planning, bad leadership, bad situation assessment... - 'you have trusted in your own way, in the strength of your strong men' .
